MP vs Customs ... (2)
The saga continues, the Customs Department is inviting Jasin MP Datuk Mohd Said Yusof to make another bid for the confiscated Mercedes Benz. In a statement by Datuk Mat Yusof Abdullah Customs deputy director-general, he said whether Jasin MP will get it or not is another story. Is this a open bribe to make him shut up or is it just a sarcasm remark?
He also mentioned that ÂThe cars that he wanted had already been approved in principle to two government officials". Approved in principal? To who? Why are they "pre-approved"?
What exactly is the procedure of buying confiscated cars from the Customs department. It would be helpful if the procedure were made clearly to the public and clear the name for Customs Department. Till then we would have to wait for the parlimentary committee.
While other MPs are saying that no suchprivilegee existed for them. It was either that suchprivilegee doesnt exist, or it existed but they dont know about it. However Ketereh MP Datuk Mohd Alwi Che Ahmad was quoted by TheStar saying " ÂI donÂt know if MPs are given priority to buy cars seized by Customs. But I know that civil servants can buy tax-free government cars after five years serviceÂ. What does "Civil servants can buy tax-free government cars after five years' service" means? Can anyone elaborate on that?
